Health classes explained
Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard: how carriers label their prices and what it takes to move between them.
Term premiums are set by rate class. Naming conventions vary by provider, but the framework is universal: Preferred Plus (possibly called Preferred Best or Super Preferred), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, followed by special rates for higher-risk profiles. Tobacco users occupy a different, pricier rate tier.
What underwriters look at
Build (height and weight), blood pressure and cholesterol readings, family medical history (especially heart disease and cancer before age 60), medications, surgery, occupation and hobbies, driving record, and whether you use tobacco.
How to use the quote tool
You self-rate on the health questionnaire: Excellent puts you in Preferred Plus, Very good in Preferred, Good in Standard Plus, and Average in Standard. That bracket shows on your quote; the company verifies your actual bracket after underwriting. Not certain of your bracket? Get quotes for two brackets to compare, then let underwriting finalize. Exaggerating health status won't slash your real cost; it only makes your quote less trustworthy.
Susman Insurance Agency can help you compare carriers with underwriting that fits your health profile better than others.
